How soon should a retinal tear be treated?

 

 

A retinal tear should be treated as soon as possible to prevent further complications, such as retinal detachment. Ideally, the treatment should occur within 24 to 48 hours of diagnosis. Prompt intervention can significantly reduce the risk of permanent vision loss. If you suspect a retinal tear or experience symptoms like flashes of light, floaters, or a shadow in your peripheral vision, you should seek immediate medical attention.

 

The treatment can be a simple retinal laser iof the tear is detected and treated immediately. Some tears may be very extensive, associated with vitreous hemorrhage and may require surgery.
